The Lure of The Little Black Dress

For decades, women everywhere have been in pursuit of the perfect 'little black dress'.  Why you ask? ... Because the 'right' LBD has the ability to create a slimming illusion on the most curviest of frames, so make no mistake...the color black is a girl's best friend!

Prior to the 1920's the color black was reserved for periods of mourning and considered appalling to be worn for anything but however, in 1926, 'Coco' Chanel published a photo of a short, simple black dress in 'Vogue' and the concept took off and became a fashion staple for women of taste.  The LBD has evolved since the beginning of its vintage roots in regards to cuts and fabrics but remains as popular as it ever was.

In 1961, the now vintage fashion icon & once Hollywood starlet Audrey Hepburn wore a little black dress by designer Hubert de' Givenchy in the cult classic 'Breakfast At Tiffany's' and this gave rise to this simple, yet absolutely glamorous look.

I have recently done some research on how to acquire a unique yet affordable 'LBD' and here's what I found...  You can get your own 'little black dress' for under $100.00 at Forever 21, Victoria's Secret, Express and Charlotte Russe.

Polka Dot Daze...

I've been keeping up to date on what's in for Spring 2011 since it's right around the corner and my most recent reveal is polka dots!

r

Dots primarily in pastel shades have made a huge impact on fashion trends for this year!  Victoria Beckham is stunning in this pale pink polka dotted Marc Jacobs one shoulder mini!

Polka dot patterns became super popular in the 1950's and the retro 50's dot bold & bright style is still considered to make quite the fashion statement...

You don't have to shop in high priced boutiques to acquire this style trend because it's pretty much 'polka dot daze' currently at all retail chains off and online.  Juicy Couture at Zappos.com, Forever 21.com and Endless.com has a bevy of polka dotted fashions and accessories for you to choose from.

This style pattern will take you right through to Fall as you can pair polka dots with capris, a slim skirt or dark-wash jeans!

Black Swan...Ballet Style Inspired Fashion

Ballet inspired fashion is BIG right now because of the Oscar nominated film 'Black Swan' starring Natalie Portman.

Delicate fabrics, tulle, feathers, marabou & sparkles.  Pale shades of pink and nude as well as basic black. Flats, flowy skirts and wrap tops...

This movie has breathed life into our love for dance inspired style just as much as Flash Dance did for us in the 80's when Jennifer Beals made off the shoulder cut up sweat shirts & leg warmers a must have fashion accessory.

The red carpet at the Oscars even saw it's fair share of Black Swan inspired couture...  Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuiller, Michelle Williams in Chanel and Halle Berry in Marchesa.

The style definitely made it's debut on the runway during Fashion week 2011 as designs inspired by the film were seen in the shows of Chloe, David Koma & Chanel...
Whatever swan you choose to be you can piece together your own ballet inspired ward robe at a more affordable range this Spring by hitting up your local mall and checking out shops such as Forever 21, Wet Seal & I'm sure you'll even find a tu tu at Hot Topic!
